For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.

For all that is in the world--the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions--is not from the Father but is from the world.

But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.

Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment.

The former proclaim Christ out of rivalry, not sincerely but thinking to afflict me in my imprisonment.

I fear that when I come again my God may humble me before you, and I may have to mourn over many of those who sinned earlier and have not repented of the impurity, sexual immorality, and sensuality that they have practiced.

They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children!

Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure in the last days. But you have eyes and heart only for your dishonest gain, for shedding innocent blood, and for practicing oppression and violence."

They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach.

Be not among drunkards or among gluttonous eaters of meat,

They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity.

For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good,read more.

Whoever loves pleasure will be a poor man; he who loves wine and oil will not be rich.

Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reckless living. For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to selfish gain!

As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance,

so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God.

For this is the will of God, your sanctification:that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God;

Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist.

Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.

The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.
